The ink receptive parts of an offset printing plate are coated with a UV-dryable ink and the coating then hardened by UV irradiation. The service life of the plate is considerably increased, and no. prints obtainable from a palte can be doubled. The process may repeatedly be applied to the same plate. The ink may be the same as used for the rapid drying of prints in offset printing. The ink may be modified to improve and ink receptivity and/or the mechanical properties of the plate.
