An electric battery comprises a metal vessel with a turned over rim, contg. a mass of depolarising matter, sealed in a plastic envelope. The rim is turned over towards the inside through an angle of =180 degrees and is gripped by an annular throat on the inside of the battery cap. The throat is formed and reinforced by ribs inside the cap and the tip of the rib forming the throat is submerged in a layer of sealing material on top of the mass in the cell. Design makes a tight joint at the level of the rim of the vessel so that sweating cannot take place, and electrolyte accumulates between vessel and sheath. The concentric rib under the cap forms two compartments above the mass. The oxygen from the carbon rod cannot come into contact with the zinc whilst electrolyte cannot spread across the mass to the anode.
