The bank counter chest with sliding shutters (4, 5) over a drawer (3), provides for the transfer of documents between customer and bank clerk, whilst maintaining the integrity of the dividing screen. The chest may have drawn section edge long strips (1) which form the shutter (4, 5) tracks, and may accommodate coin and note drawers (21, 23) with the inner shutter (5) automatically pivoting. The drawer (3) occupies the outer two thirds of the chest length and is bisected (3a, 3b) by the transverse screen (4). The shutters (4, 5) hinge relative to one another and slide between two alternative positions. In the first position the shutters cover the drawer (3), and in the second one cover the two thirds of the chest which are available to the clerk. When in the former station the inner shutter (5) automatically pivots into an inclined position under the action of rotary cams (9) with tensile spring (11).
