A device for shielding an adjustable component which conducts a beam of radiation, esp. an adjustable collimator containing a neutron beam channel through its centre, comprises two flexible, sealed cushions or pads contg. a radiation-absorbent fluid; these pads are placed one upon the other, so that a large part of their contact area forms a close seal, but with the flexible collimator sandwiched between them. The collimator or similar radiation-conducting device has a number of gas pipes connected to it, enabling it to be pressurised internally and inflated so that it presses against the faces of the cushions. Used in partic. for collimators for neutron beams which must be adapted to various positions. The shielding appts. is easily adjusted to various shapes and positions of the collimator appts.
