The demountable bollard (1) may be used to prevent vehicle access and has a key-operated lock mechanism. The post is hollow and contains a vertical lever (10) which can pivot about a horizontal axis (9) which locates at approx. the top third point of the lever (10), and the top of the lever (13) is constrained (19) to bear on the bolt (14) of a key-operated lock (15). The foot of the lever has a notch (12) which can engage a ground-anchored stirrup (8). The operation of the lock displaces the bolt which in turn displaces the top of the lever. The lever then pivots causing the notched foot to engage the stirrup mounted on a base plate.
