The prefabricated wooden staircase has a stringer and rack bar, with banisters and hand rail. The main stringer consists of a top part (8) with a tongue (10) which is inserted into grooves in the ends of the banisters. The bottom part (9) of the stringer is fitted into the top part (8) and takes the rack bar (14) which is fixed on one of the surfaces of the stringer. The steps (2) and risers (4) are fixed to the stringer. A prefabricated plinth is fixed to a wall or partition and is supported by uprights. The base of the hand rail has a tongue fitting into the grooves of the banisters. The nosing of the steps (2a, 2b) rests underneath the top part of the stringer.
