Young calf suckling system - has tethering chains suspended from carriages which are movable towards and away from cows in stalls

The mother cows are arranged in individual stalls having a space at the rear in which the calves are led to forward suckling positions or near rest positions. Two transverse members (3, 4) pass behind the stalls and are suspended from and guided on beams (8) for forward and rearward movement by drive mechanism (16). The members (3, 4) are connected by depending frames to each of which a chain is connected, the calf being tethered to the other end of the chain. At suckling time the frame and member assembly is advanced. Adjacent frames position the cows between them and the calves are led to the cows.
