Detection of cracks in continuous casting rolls - using a nest of tubes in the roll which fracture when rolls crack

A device to detect cracks in continuous casting rolls incorporates a nest of tubes cast into the roll body, the tubes being supplied with water and the central part of each tube being located on the periphery of the roll or a distance from the roll corresp. to the depth of a fissure to be detected so that the growth of the fissure provides fracture of a tube and leakage of water from the roll. The device enables dangerous cracks to be located even in the middle of the rolls so that the roll can be replaced quickly, when the fissure has attained a dangerous depth.
