A helicopter, esp. of the type capable of unmanned free flight, is formed of several separable modules arranged in a vertically stacked assembly. The modules include an uppermost propulsion module (c), a central fuel tank module (B) and a lower-most control and payload module (A). A collar (13) supports the propulsion module and has an attachment from which the fuel tank module is suspended. The helicopter has a tripod undercarriage, and the three legs (14) are pivotally connected to attachments equi-spaced around the collar and extend downwardly and outwardly to terminate below the control and payload module.
