Sprung seal strip for a shoe sole mould core - to suit tool and welt thickness variations without marring the welt

The seal between the core of a shoe sole mould and split tool blocks for the sole cavity is provided by a strip of semi-rigid, heat resistant material extended by springs, located in cavities around the base of the mould core. The spring pressure is sufficient to form a seal between a strip of welt material and radiused lips on the cavity tools. The spring seal accommodates variations in core/mould and welt thickness dimensions to maintain a seal without imposing excessive pressure and consequent indentations or scrapes on the surface of the welt.
