The packing is for fresh and other foodstuffs, and comprises a number of strips of corrugated cardboard, each accommodating a number of items (5) one on top of the other and extending halfway round the periphery of each. A box of corrugated cardboard (3) accommodates a number of strips, which define vertical and horizontal ventilation passages, there being openings (11) in the box wall leading to these passages. Each strip can have vertical grooves, and when seen in cross-section can form an open interrupted line, with faces bearing against the items. The two end faces of each strip can be parallel.
