The vacuum cleaner has a cable storage drum (6) inside a chamber (7) which has its own cooling air current produced by the existing fan (3). The air current flows into the space housing the dust filter (2) and into the fan (3) through a small opening (10) in the partition (8) between the dust filter space and the cable drum chamber or via a connecting pipe between the connector for the hose and the drum chamber. The partition is preferably designed as a double wall with an intermediate air space which keeps the heat transfer to a minimum. It is possible to connect an additional cooling rotor with the fan motor (4) to produce the cooling air current. This rotor can also be attached directly to the fan (3).
