Self hardening modelling clay compsn. - contains mixt. of plastic clay and refractory clay with tall water and pref. polyvinyl acetate as hardener
The compsn. has high shrinkage on drying and comprises 37% plastic lay; 12.5% refractory clay; 12.5% talc and 21.5% H2O. It pref. also contains 15.5% polyvinyl acetate as hardener. It can be fired at 1000 degrees and then has similar qualities to potters' clay. It can be used to produce premoulds for heat-forming of plastics and to produce reduced copies of objects by successive moulding and stamping. A typical compsn. comprises: plastic clay (SiO2 63.75; Al2O3, 18.87) 37%, refractory clay (SiO2 47.37; Al2O3 34.32) 12.5%, talc 12.5%; polyvinyl acetate 15.5%, sodium metaphosphate (wetting agent) 0.6%; 'Proben' (fungicide) 0.4% and H2O 21.5%.
