The barrage groyne is for use in protecting sandy beaches against marine erosion and comprises a line of modular units. One side of each unit is bedded directly on the ground, and the remaining faces receive wire-mesh infill (6). The units may comprise frames (2-4) of reinforced concrete or steel sections. In the case of the concrete units the mesh (6) may be fixed by embedding at the casting stage, or may be fixed demountably after casting. The wire mesh (6) may have a protective coating of e.g. concrete, and the units (1) may be installed on a concrete base.
