Wood burning fireplace with supplementary hot water system - has stainless steel water circulating tube nest also acting as fire grate

The hearth of an open fireplace (2) for burning wood, carries a grid (1) made from tubing through which water can circulate so as to form a supplementary heating source for radiators. The grid has a set of curved tubes (7), roughly C shaped, supported at top and bottom by respective header tubes (3, 4). This shape ensures that the flames and all the heat pass around all the contact surfaces of the grid. Further, the curved lower part of the grid can act as the fire bars which support the burning wood. The cross section of the tubes can be oval. The lower part is supported on feet (8) to allow air to circulate underneath. An air flap (10) can be attached to the rear, at the top.
