The head-mounted casement bolt is for use on doors or windows and is of a robust morticed construction. The transmission rod (6) is located behind a masking strip (4) and in a groove along the edge of the mobile or the static frame. The depth of the groove is increased locally to accommodate a knob-operated partly cogged wheel in a housing (24). The profile of the housing (24) may be varied to suit the geometry of the frame. The housing (24) may be of an inverted winged U shape, is fixed to the masking strip (4) and is also fixed to the frame. The former fixing utilises two plates (26, 27) which cantilever from the strip (4) to form a guide for the rod (6). The wings (36, 37) of the housing are of rectangular cross-section and fit between the plates (26, 27) to be screwed (34, 35) in place. A threaded sleeve (48, 49) above each wing may locate screws (50, 51) fixing the rosette of a rotatable hand-knob.
