Leading end of tube extrusion punch - has compound curved shape which extends life expectancy of punch

A hydraulic extrusion press for the production of steel tubes from a solid block, has a combination punch. The compound curvature between the leading axial end of the punch and its cylindrical side, is influenced by the steel specification of the extrusion material, but its basic shape is given by two mathematical equations. The curve from the X-axis, which corresponds with the axis of the punch is given by a formula, and the second curve which blends into the cylindrical side of the punch, is given by another formula. The punch shape thus obtained reduces wear and thus increases its useful life three to five times its normal duration.
