Prostane derivs. - useful as contraceptives or for control of the oestrus cycle in animals

Prostane derivs. of formula (I) are new. In the formula, the gp. (II) is of formula (III) to (VI); R1 is 1-10C opt. branched alkyl, alkoxyalkyl or haloalkyl, 1-6C omega-carboxyalkyl, phenyl or naphthyl opt. substd. by one or more halo, nitro phenyl, 1-5C alkyl, alkoxy or haloalkyl. R2-4 are each H or 1-5C alkyl; X is ethylene or trans-vinylene; Y is 1-6C alkyleneoxy where the O atom is bonded to R5, 1-6C alkylene or a direct bond; R5 is phenyl or naphthyl opt. substd. as above; n is 1-4; and m is 0 or 1. (I) possess high luteolytic activity and are therefore useful as contraceptives or for control of the oestrous cycle in animals. Some (I) also possess high activity in preventing blood platelet aggregation. (I) may be used to induce labour or early abortion, or as hypotensives for the relief of broncho-spasm or the inhibition of gastric acid production.
