Electrical plug and socket connector - has spring loaded disc cover for socket which does not uncover live contacts until plug is pushed fully home

The socket part of the connector has a cover (12) which is pushed down into the socket when the plug (6) part of the connector is pushed home. The plug (6) has three electrical contact rings (8, 9, 10) one of which (10) is set in the lower part of its circumferential surface. The other two contact rings (8, 9) are on the circumferential surface of the plug. The connector cover (12) is in the form of a disc and has on its lower surface conductor terminals (16). These terminals (16) mate with pairs of conductor terminals (17, 18), fixed in the base of the socket, when the plug is inserted. On the lateral wall of the socket are spring loaded ballbearing contacts (21, 25, 27) which connect with the contact rings on the plug.
