The chassis has rear wheels (2) driven by an engine (3) and front steerable wheels (4). A drum (7) is rotatably mounted on the chassis and can be driven by the engine via chains, sprockets and a reduction gearbox (13). The gearbox can be driven by the engine or alterntively, by a motor driven turbine (23) through shaft 21) and clutch (20). A fire hose (8) is unwound from drum (7) and its free end connected to a water pressure supply. The machine end of the hose feeds the turbine via pipe (9).
