The inactive carbonaceous materials which are normally unsuitable as the raw materials of blast furnace due to to 1 (pref. 0.5) mm mean particle size. They their non-fusibility and low caking ability, are finely pulverized to 1 (pref. 0.5) mm mean particle size. They are impregnated with petrolic or coaly aromatic bituminous matter of at. ratio of H/C 1. The bituminous matter has sufficient fluidity for impregnation which is carried out m. pt. of bituminous matter, and under press.
