Conrod with axial ball on end-tapered shaft - uses ball bearings in concave shaft-seats with welded joint periphery

The connecting rod has an axial spherical head (1a, 1b) on each end of a tapered cylindrical shaft (2) and may be utilised in hydraulic machines of the barrel type. Perfectly spherical balls e.g. ball bearings are used to form the heads, thus simplifying fabrication. The balls (1a, 1b) are peripherally welded (3a, 3b) to the shaft (2) which has reciprocal spherical concavities on each axial extremity. Each head provides axial and radial bearing surfaces, and the joints between the heads and the shaft constitute a revolutionary axial housing of the ball in the shaft end. Welding may be carried out by electron beam or laser ray, and the bearing surfaces on the shaft ends may be formed by a spherical ring (4) with an axial hole.
