A method of recovering fresh water by solar energy over an area exposed to the sun consists of placing over the area a screen which is impermeable to gaseous fluids but permeable to heat. The screen forms a closed space nad its exposure to solar heat causes evapn. of the humidity present in the space. The humidity comes into contact with the lower surface of the screen, where it condenses and is collected by streaming under gravity, giving fresh water. Used esp. for obtaining fresh water from salt water or brackish water contained in desert and sandy ground.
