Mounting for cylindrical piece during rectification - has rollers mounted with axes at apices of triangle, with idlers mounted on sprung, piston-actuated slide

A driven roller (7) and two idling rollers (23, 24), positioned with their axies on the apices of a triangle, are used to locate and rotate and axially parallel cylindrical metal workpiece (1) during a rectifying operation. The idling rollers may be mounted on a slide (9), a spring piston (19) displacing the slide to effectively clamp the piece between the three rollers. The force provided by the piston increases with the dia. of the piece, the slide being of a dovetail section in a slideway (8) of reciprocal form. The slide may locate a reversible plate (17) supporting two pairs of rollers at opposite ends and adapting to pieces of different dias. Wear-generated play in the slideway may be taken up by a screw adjustable lining to the slideway wall.
