The special vice holds a circular section shaft in position for radial or diametric drilling, also locating a guide sleeve for the drill-bit, and comprising a rail and a slide. The active faces of the rail and the slide have a longitudinal 'V' section groove and a parallel rectangular section groove respectively, the two being connected by a transverse bolt. The shaft is clamped between the rail and the slide and located by the grooves, the perpendicular faces of the slide serving as an axial datum and also incorporating a 'V' section groove. A vertical jaw displaced by a further bolt and guided on a round section bar clamps the drill-bit guide in the latter groove.
