The open fire allows the production of hot water to heat the entire house or merely for washing up. It has a heater element mounted in the chimney, with an expansion vessel, to avoid excess pressure, connected to the water outlet. The outlet is connected to the return pipe of the central heating system, as is the inlet. When water temperature in the element has reached the value set for the central heating equipment, the latter cuts out automatically. Conversely on falling below this value it cuts in again, and the element acts as a radiator.
