The retractable roof utilises a coarse canvas (12) overlying transverse lattice girders (11) spanning perpendicularly between two parallel edge beams (10). The assembly is retracted by sliding the girders along the beams to position them next to one another on a prim support, the edge beams then pivot about vertical axles to overlie one another and the girders. The canvas is ficed to the girders in panels, dropping in folds between the girders as the roof rectracts. Each inter-girder panel may be made up of three elongated triangular sub-panels and an edge panel giving a drainage fall to the edges, elastic ties (22) at the edges maintaining the profile.
