The materials to be disposed of are coated in a material appropriate for the particular waste by placing them in a container so as to leave a space all round including from the plane of the top opening. The coating is then poured in around the waste. The waste materials may be placed in a first container which is then coated in the same manner, e.g. when the waste is in the form of a powder or granules. The moulded block can be removed from the container after the coating has hardened. A special bitumen of high melting point and strong resistance to mechanical or chemical attack is esp. useful for waste contg. polychlorobiphenyls, hexachlorocyclobutadene or hexachlorocyclohexane. As well as chemical waste, polluted appts. such as condensers can be coated and rendered safe to handle in this way. The resulting blocks can be safely used for filling cavities.
