The gearbox for a light machine such as a motor cycle or mowing machine, gives the choice of three speeds. On the drive shaft (1) is a sleeve (7) mounted on roller bearings (6) and at one end an integral double spur gear sprocket (18, 19). The end sprocket (18) drives a spur wheel (21) integral with a parallel shaft (2). In this shaft (2) is a chain sprocket (23) which drives a further sprocket (12) integral with a spur gearwheel (13). This double sprocket (12, 13) rotates on a grooved part of the sleeve (7). At one end of the sleeve (7) is a pinion (8) driving an output pinion (9). At the other end of the sleeve is a sliding pinion (15) which can be engaged and disengaged from a pinion (22) integral with the parallel shaft (2).
