The mechanical hammer is for aligning railway track rails, its chassis being mounted on wheels (2, 3) which rest on the track rails (4, 5) to be aligned. The drive linkage is designed so that the hammers can deliver blows to the inside and outside of the rails. The hammer blows are delivered with a constant predetermined force and are synchronised so that two blows are struck together. The hammers have synthetic material shock absorbers on their faces so that they do not mark the track rails.
