Toy simulating race between two figures - has drive motor actuated by balls falling into holes in playing surface to make electrical contact

The toy has two figurines racing along a track at the top of the case. They are made to move by switches being set to 'depart'. A ball then falls into a hole and during its fall it brings two leaf contacts into contact which starts an electric motor. The axle of the motor has a pinion which moves a larger pinion with a pulley for each figurine. A band is rolled round each pulley and the figurines are fixed to the bands.
