The device automatically switches on the distress lamps of a vehicle in the case of an accident. It is fitted under the bonnet and has a guide tube (4) with a ball (6). At its end of travel the ball joins two contacts (7) in the distress lamp circuit. A flexible weak link (19) is placed in the guide and normally prevents the ball from making contact. The ball can be returned to its normal position using a ramp.
