The feeder comprises a frame (1) having a feeding desk (2) mounted in its lower part. Above this is fixed at least one container for food. The container has a retractable bottom which is held inclosed position by a member controlled by a cam which is rotated by a clock movement secured to the frame. The feeder may have two containers (3, 3a) each with a retractable bottom (4, 4a) supported by the turned over end (6a, 6) of a link (6, 7) which is pivoted to the frame. The other end of the link bears against a cam (10) fixed to a toothed wheel (11) which is in mesh with a toothed wheel (14) of the clock movement.
