A frame (1) has uprights (2) and a horizontal work plane (4). A roller (5) suspended in bearings (7) carries a continuous band of labels (6) the end of which is led under a guide bar (8) and between rollers (9, 10). The rollers are contiguous and one is driven by a motor. The end of the band of labels is wrapped around the article, such as sausages, by the operator who then depresses a pedal to lower glue dispenser (13) and, behind it, cutter (14). The dispenser and cutter are raised and the free glued end is applied to the other end which is around the articles.
