A base compsn. for cement coating comprises (pref. wt. % in brackets) (a) water retention agent (b) plasticiser (c) impermeabilising agent (d) air entraining agent, (e) self-smoothing agent and (f) adhesive. The base compsn. can be mixed with white or grey cement, silica powder, CaCO, etc to form various types of coatings, according to the proportions of its components. The coating compsn. contain 4% base compsn. Pref. (a) is methylcellulose, (b) is vinyl powder, (c) is Mg or Ca stearate, (d) is a lignosulphonate, (e) is a caseing and (f) is hide glue.
