The stranding device consists of two stranding points and two stranding heads arranged alternately in the conductor through-running direction. The stranding heads rotate in the same direction, and their speed differentials and/or ratios are adjustable. Each stranding head is driven by a disc rotor motor with electric programme control. Preferably the stranding head is directly inserted onto the hollow shaft of the disc rotor motor. The arrangement provides differential speed adjustment attainable at a short time period. The direct connection of the stranding head onto the hollow motor shaft obviates any use of transmissions and thus saves space.
