The hollow rectangular signpost arm has a uniform cross-section and is built up from a series of modular pieces (2, 4), and is internally illuminated. The pieces have identical cross sections, and connect to one another by spigot (3) and socket type joints. They accept standard plugs (7) and pointed noses (5), and may be of injected or moulded plastics with soldered or glued joints. A central piece is provided with a perpendicular hollow circular spigot (8) for mounting in or on a post (10) of similar section, the spigot inc. a diametric locking screw (9). The post (10) may pass through the spigot (8) to notch into the opposite wall (2A), or may pass through the wall in the case of multi arm signs. In addn. the pieces may be transparent and/or be covered with adhesive reflective material.
