1536114 Doppler beacon OFFICE NATIONAL D'ETUDES ET DE RECHERCHES AEROSPATIALES 8 July 1977 [9 July 1976] 28870/77 Heading H4A An aerial system, for simulating a Doppler navigational beacon of the type having dipole pairs a1, a1SP1/SP &c. which are commutated to give the effect of rotation, comprises dipole pairs 1,1SP1/SP &c. the two dipoles of each pair being spaced in a common direction. The spacing differs from pair to pair and is given by the projection of points a1, a2 &c. of circle 106 on to a plane. The pairs are commutated such that the spacing effectively varies as a sinusoidal function of time, the power fed to the dipoles being weighted proportionally to the spacing. The two dipoles of a pair are fed #/4 out of phase. Random positioning of the centres 1SP11/SP, 2SP11/SP &c. of the pairs enables an aircraft receiver to discriminate against multi-path interference by a signal correlation technique.
