PURPOSE:To considerably lower the hardness of ordinary high silicon cast iron and enhance the strength and workability by adding a respectively specified amt. of Mg, graphite and Al or Cu to hot metal of the iron. CONSTITUTION:To hot metal of ordinary high silicon cast iron are added, by weight, Mg 0.0025-0.05%, graphite 0.05-0.5% and Al 0.05-0.1% or Cu 0.1- 0.7%. Thus, high silicon cast iron is obtd. having a bending strength of about 35- 40kg/mm2, a hardness of about 260-330Hb and superior machinability.
