METHOD OF DEGUMMING RAW SILK AND FABRIC THEREFROM

PURPOSE:To produce degummed silk yarn or fabrics that are resistant to the occurrence of dying uneveness, yellowing and browning, thus having high whiteness, by degumming raw silk or fabrics therefrom in a bath containing a carboxylic acid as the major ingredient. CONSTITUTION:Raw silk or fabrics therefrom are degummed in a bath containing a carboxylic acid as tartaric, citric or aceric acid as the major component to remove uniformly sericin which is hard soluble in alkali. Oxalic and formic acids are not used because of their hazardousness and toxicity. The concentration of the carboxylic acid is about 0.3 to 0.5% and the bath ratio is about 1:50.
