A method of processing fine-grained alkaline earth oxides which are produced by firing raw material in a kiln, consists in adding a binding agent up to a maximum of 2.5% by weight to the fine-grained alkaline earth oxides and the resulting mixture is then compressed into lump form until the lumps aquire sufficient mechanical strength to withstand transport after compressing. The compressed lumps are then subjected to a second firing process.
