SOIL IMPROVEMENT AGENT AND ITS APPLICATION

The soil-improving product is based on an organic cellulose-rich material, in particular cereal straw, which has been prepared by cutting up to give a form which can easily be introduced into the soil and treating with a nitrogen compound which gives the nitrogen needed for its microbial decomposition, before use the moisture being kept so low and the concentration of the nitrogen compound being kept so high that no decomposition occurs. This product can be incorporated easily, in well-distributed form and without difficulties into the soil and has a good disintegrating activity. It consists principally of microbially degradable substances, microbial decomposition only beginning from a certain relatively high moisture content or a relatively low concentration of the nitrogen compound used. The microbial decomposition is associated with a high evolution of heat, so the product is additionally highly suitable for heating purposes, for example in greenhouses.
