I Claim: 1, An improved supporting device for the upper and middle berths of a three-tier sleeper coach of passenger trains, the said device for each upper and middle berth comprising two hanger tubes, each having two longitudinal slots on its diametrically opposite faces with a number of pairs of offset clutch grooves, each pair at equal pitch longitudinally and on diametrically opposite faces and each groove branched off from the said corresponding side longitudinal slot, the top ends of the said tubes being fastened to the roof of the coach and their bottom ends fixed on the outer edge of each upper berth of a three-tier bay, two hanger rods each having a free fit in the bore of each tube, a pin at the top end of each rod and the projecting ends of the pin passing freely through the said slots and free to engage any pair of the said clutch grooves by turning the rod slightly, a collar on the bottom end of each rod, two pedestals fixed on the outer edge of the said middle berth and each hanger rod passing through and supporting each pedestal on the said collar, a second coller welded on the rod slightly above the pedestal, two short handle bars welded on the second collar in diametrically opposite positions, two plate channels fixed in the width-wise direction on the bottom face of the middle berth, two bearing plates welded on the end faces of the said each channel of such length that one bearing plate is inside by about two inches from the front edge of and the other in line with the rear edge of the berth, a third bearing plate welded on the bottom face of the angle iron border and in line with the front edge of the berth, the said three bearings together supporting a locking pin passing through the enclosed space between the berth and the channel, a trigger welded on the locking pin in between the front and intermediate bearing plates, a spiral spring on the locking pin in between the trigger and the front bearing to keep the locking pin engaged, two steel flats each having a number of holes on its longitudinal axis and at the same pitch as that of the off-set clutch grooves in the said hanger tubes and fixed vertically in between the upper and middle berths and on the partition between a bay of six berths, the projecting ends of the pins at the top ends of the said hanger rods and the rear ends of the said locking pins engaging corresponding clutch grooves in the hanger tubes and the holes in the said steel flats respectively thus keeping the berth in level.
