Drinking water is produced from sea water by circulating a stream of air across the surface of warm sea water. This absorbs moisture from the sea water and is then pass accross a cooling coil where the moisture is recondensed and collected in the fresh water tank. The cooling and heating is achieved by means of a compressor which circulates propane or another gas and is arranged so that the cooling effect is produced on the suction side of the compressor and the warming effect on the discharge side. The process produces the same quantity of drinking water per unit of energy consumed or more than the traditional process but the equipment is less complex, cheaper to produce and takes up less space.
