摘要
Tobacco is contacted with a stream of non-reactive gas and heated to volatilise the flavourants, which are then condensed from the gas stream. The improvement is that the tobacco is heated to 140-180 degrees C, for sufficient time to achieve a wt. loss from the tobacco of 3-10% in excess of the loss represented by oven volatiles. The fraction of volatiles obtained has the flavour and aroma of tobacco, and is storable. It is used to augment the flavour of low flavour smoking materials, esp. the low tar type. When high flavour tobaccos are used, e.g. Oriental, the residue is still suitable for smoking.
