Lubricating oil compsn. comprises an oil of lubricating viscosity and (A) 2.5-50 (10-30) millimols per kg. of an alkaline earth metal substantially satd. (95%) 20-300C aliphatic sulphonate and (B) 0.5-20 (2-10) wt. % of a 50-300C alkenyl monosuccinimide. Also claimed is a concentrate contg. 25-100 millimols (A) and 5-80 wt. % (B) (as well as the lubricating oil). Used for I.C. engines, automatic transmissions or as hydraulic oils, heat-transfer oils etc. The combination of (A) with (B) gives a dispersant and detergent additive of superior detergency than that of conventional succinimide and sulphonate.
