Artificial logs comprise compressed wood particles (chips or pulp) and a solid wax binder deposited on the wood partices in the form of wax granules. The logs contain 60-95 (pref. 70-90) wt.% wood particles and 5-40 (pref. 10-30) wt.% wax. The wax has a m.pt. of 82 degrees C. The binder is pref. a hard wax and a soft wax (penetration 20-55); it pref. comprises 75-100 wt.% hard wax and 25-0wt.% soft wax. Synthetic waxes comprising 20-28C linear primary alcohols can also be used. The logs contain less wax than prior art products; they have good combustion and mechanical properties.
