Wolframite and/or cassiterite is recovered by (i) grinding rock with coarse pieces of rock and removing - 80 mesh material; (ii) floating off sulphides; (iii) de-sliming to remove all -8 mu material still present; (iv) conditioning the resulting pulp by either aerating or mechanically agitating in the presence of 2-3 lbs/t. of HF, H2SiF6 or lactic acid; (v) activating over 20 mins - 3 hrs. in the presence of 0.2-2.50 lb/t. of emulsified collector selected from an emulsified fatty acid, emulsified org. phosphoric acid type, paratolyl arsenic acid and hydroxamic acid; and (vi) floating for 5-15 mins. at pH 5.5-6.5. Wolframite is easily septd. from topaz, quartz, quartzite, toumaline, fluorspar, Fe oxides, chlorites, etc. Method is superior to gravity or magnetic sepn. methods.
