An intermediate connecting piece for automatic drawgear of the centrally mounted type with Willison profile mounted on railway vehicles has the ends profiled to fit into the drawgear head. The heads (1), (1') have retainers (4) and also stops (11). The heads (1) are joined by a rigid coupling rod (2) by joints (9). These joints permit limited vertical deflections regulated by stops and return springs. The stops (11) prevent undue vertical movement of the head piece. The arrangement gives extra controlled vertical deflection but without additional horizontal deflections. The heads have enlarged regions on their pressure (5) and traction (6) surfaces.
