A protective suit is disclosed which has a layer provided with first ducts (5) for a liquid coolant for cooling a wearer of the suit and with second ducts (6) for conveying a gas. The first ducts (5) are impermeable, whereas the second ducts (6) are permeable at least to water vapour; in use, gas is passed through the second ducts (6) to and draw off water vapour which has passed into the ducts (6) from the wearer. Both the first ducts (5) and the second ducts (6) are adjacent an inner surface of the suit so as, in use, to be adjacent the wearer of the suit, thereby effectively cooling the wearer and effectively reducing humidity for the wearer.
